Over 120,000 Cases in 4 Months: Thai Scam Victims Lose 900 Million

The Thailand Anti-Online Scam Center released an analysis report on online crime data on the 10th, showing that between January 1 and April 30, 2026, the center received a total of 121,921 reports, involving a total amount as high as 7.48 billion baht (approximately 907 million ringgit).

According to China News Service, analysis by the center shows that current scam types primarily fall into three major categories: First, goods and services scams. This type of scam is the most common, with 85,215 cases, accounting for 69.9% of all cases, and the average loss per case is 15,727 baht. These scams are more prevalent on holidays and during peak shopping seasons, with the highest spikes in March.

Second, investment scams. This type of scam has the largest total losses, reaching as much as 5.9977 billion baht, accounting for 80.2% of all scam-related losses, with an average loss per case of 166,449 baht. These cases have shown a downward trend since January, indicating that law enforcement crackdowns have been effective.

Third, technical attacks and high-tech scams. Although this category is the least common, with only 673 cases in total—just 0.55% of all cases—the average loss per case is as high as 211,686 baht.

The Thailand Anti-Online Scam Center reminds the public and foreign tourists not to click on suspicious links or fill out any forms from unknown sources. Do not trust anyone claiming to be a government official. Before making any transfers or investments, be sure to verify with relevant personnel or institutions.
