Niu Chengze Travels to India with Friend’s Daughter, Friend Trusts His Determination to Change

59-year-old 'Director Dou' Niu Chengze committed a sexual assault in 2018, was sentenced to four years in prison in 2021, and served his sentence in Hualien. He was released on parole on January 23 of this year. Recently, he appeared in a friend's social media post, traveling to India with the friend’s family. The friend posted a warm photo of his 4-year-old daughter interacting with Niu Chengze, writing: "As my daughter grows up, she will definitely have a wonderful memory — traveling in India one summer with her favorite 'Uncle Dou'." Many netizens expressed concern in the comments, asking, "How could any parent trust putting their daughter together with a sex offender?" The friend responded that Niu Chengze has paid the price for his mistakes and that he trusts Niu Chengze’s determination to change: "When rehabilitated individuals return to society after serving their sentences, society should be able to accept them, regardless of whether they are public figures, rather than refusing to let them return to normal life just because of their past." Niu Chengze, in 2018, forcibly kissed and groped a female staff member at his residence. As he was unable to perform sexually, he ended up sexually assaulting her with his fingers. Although he argued that there were mutual feelings and it was not against her will, the judge did not believe him. In 2021, he was convicted of forcible sexual intercourse and sentenced to four years. On November 30 of the same year, he reported to the Hualien District Prosecutors Office to begin serving his sentence. After serving nearly three years and five months and applying for parole four times, he was finally approved by the Agency of Corrections for parole in mid-December last year, and was released on January 23 this year, just in time to spend Lunar New Year with his mother.
