(Bandar Seri Begawan, 29th) A delegation of 12 faculty and students from China’s Tsinghua University visited the Brunei Muara Chinese Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, engaging in exchanges with the chamber’s board members to gain an in-depth understanding of the development of Brunei’s Chinese community, Chinese associations’ activities, and the Chinese-language education system.
Upon arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Mr. Lim Teng Chai and Mr. Lim Teng Yuan, Vice Presidents of the Chamber, Mr. Sun De’an, Director of Education & Culture, Mr. Chen Jianmin, Finance Director, Mr. Sun Shengli, Deputy Secretary General, and Mr. Lin Tianhua, Deputy Welfare Director.
During the exchange, both parties discussed topics such as the development history of Brunei’s Chinese community, the role of Chinese associations, as well as the current status and future development of Chinese-language education in depth.
Among them, Mr. Sun De’an is also the Honorary Chairman of Chung Hwa Middle School, Lim Teng Chai serves as Vice Chairman, Lim Teng Yuan as Director, and Sun Shengli as Chairman of Tutong Chung Hwa School. They introduced to the Tsinghua delegation their schools’ educational philosophies, operation models, and unique activities, and shared the recent phenomenon of more non-Chinese students choosing to attend Chinese schools, as well as the important role Chinese-language education plays in promoting ethnic interaction and cultural inheritance.
It is learned that the Tsinghua delegation arrived in Brunei early yesterday morning from Beijing to begin a week-long exchange visit and will return to Beijing on August 3.
During the visit, in addition to participating in the Sultan’s get-together celebration with the people tomorrow, the delegation will also visit the Brunei Fuzhou Association, the Brunei Fujian Association, and tour several famous tourist attractions in Brunei to further understand Brunei’s history, culture, social development, and multiethnic characteristics.
