(Kuching, 11th) Batu Lintang constituency representative Shi Zhihau stated, "The invention of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) has given us a crucial life-saving measure."
Yesterday, when he attended as the guest of honor at the "AED Donation Ceremony and CPR Lecture" held at the Pending Community Association Hall, he announced the donation of an AED to the Pending Community Association, hoping that the equipment would not only serve as a preventive safety measure, but also become the starting point for raising community emergency awareness.
He pointed out that in public places with heavy foot traffic such as sports venues, community halls, schools, and shopping malls, the timely installation of AEDs and proper operation by trained personnel, combined with the provision of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), will greatly increase the survival rate of patients in critical moments.
"Cardiac arrest often occurs during the most critical golden minutes, and for each minute delayed, the patient's survival rate decreases by 7-10%. If CPR is performed immediately and an AED is used, the chance of survival can be increased two to three times. That is why the AED is truly a 'life-saving device'."
He emphasized that the Pending Community Association Hall is a place where people gather, making the installation of an AED a necessary move, and it is also a concrete action of his service as a constituency representative, showing care for the health of the people.
Shi Zhihau pointed out that providing the hardware is just the first step, and that education and training are equally important. "First aid is not an exclusive skill for doctors, but an ability that everyone should have, because in moments of crisis, the first people present are often those around us."
He praised the organizers and the Red Crescent Society for arranging medical professionals to give on-site demonstrations, guiding the public from "awareness" to "practice", and hoped that more community organizations would participate to jointly build a safe, healthy, and caring society.
He finally thanked the organizing team, medical staff, and residents for their active participation, and called on everyone to learn first aid skills so that they can step up in critical moments to protect lives.
