Tour Graduation in Malaysia: Yoga Lin Performs Through Illness

Yoga Lin's "idol 2024 World Tour" spanned over six years, culminating in a perfect finale on the evening of the 14th at Mega Star Arena in Kuala Lumpur. Returning to perform in Malaysia after seven years, Yoga Lin not only fulfilled fans' wish for a concert "under the hill," but also went off-stage to circle the venue, even interacting closely with fans on the second floor. After the concert ended and the house lights came on, he returned for an encore amidst fans’ passionate cheers, singing “Family Love” and “Proxy Marriage Proposal,” performing for nearly three and a half hours to the delight of fans, who cheered, "so satisfying!"

The "idol World Tour" started in 2018 and was interrupted by the pandemic, only resuming in 2023. The Kuala Lumpur stop was the final leg of the tour. At this graduation finale, Yoga Lin shared many of his thoughts and words of encouragement at the concert, frankly stating, “It's the last show, I hope everyone enjoys this concert.”

Acclaimed for its stage design likened to a moving art gallery, the "idol" concert combined the theme of "escaping the black hole" to extend different atmospheres and effects. Yoga Lin performed over 30 songs, including “Natural Wake,” “I Am Not God, I Am Just an Ordinary Stubborn Person Loving You,” “Bole,” “Eye Color,” “Waste,” “Cruel Moonlight,” “Loops,” “Lies,” among others, and covered songs like “Love Wrong” and “Fulfillment,” allowing fans to enter his world song by song and gradually exploring the deeper aspects of "idol." He hoped fans would laugh and cry with him and feel the power of love together. This concert was like a feast for auditory and spiritual healing.

(Middle) During his performance of 'Walking on a Tightrope,' a key song from his 'One Million Star' competition days, scenes from his competition days were shown on screen, taking fans on a nostalgic trip. (Right) Yoga Lin walked into the audience with a mask on, singing 'Girl' and interacting closely with fans.

He revealed that he had recently learned a new breathing technique for singing. He initially thought that the Kuala Lumpur show would be his best performance of the tour, a perfect day, but awoke to a sore throat, which made him angry and worried about affecting his performance. He kept gargling with salt water in hopes of alleviating the pain, only for it to cause nasal drip, leaving him speechless! Despite throat discomfort and nasal drip, Yoga Lin's singing remained unaffected, with his high notes still steady. Had he not mentioned it, no one would have known he was performing while unwell.

He mentioned that the Kuala Lumpur stop was not originally part of the tour, and he revealed that a fan previously expressed hope for a concert “under the hill,” fulfilling fans' wishes this time. In the latter half of the concert, Yoga Lin began his quick-set mode with a series of joyful and slow songs. Always generous to his fans, he even gifted a small bear he wore to a fan in the front row. He also expressed hope that fans, regardless of ticket price, would enjoy the highest quality concert. During the performance of “Girl,” he deliberately walked off stage, circled the venue, and even went up to the second floor to interact closely with fans, exciting the entire audience.

After the concert ended, the venue lights came on and security began ushering fans out, but he returned for an encore, singing “Family Love” and “Proxy Marriage Proposal” to thank fans for their support. He introduced “Family Love” as a song about cherishing family, and after singing “Proxy Marriage Proposal,” he emotionally shared: “Not everyone will get married, nor does everyone need to, but if you do, marriage is a serious matter, don’t divorce lightly, persevere. Sometimes you may find work or health challenging to maintain, and marriage or relationships difficult. For those interested in marriage, listen up: hope to love each other as you love yourselves.” With a reluctant smile, he bid fans farewell, marking a perfect ending to the 'graduation' show.
