In Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province, South Korea, a bank employee managed to embezzle 391.33 million won (approximately 1.18 million ringgit) by hiding cash in his socks and other methods. On the 15th, a judge from the Chuncheon District Court sentenced him to 8 months in prison.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the 45-year-old bank employee stole from his own bank's vault on six separate occasions last year. During the process, he would stuff bundles of 50,000-won bills into his socks, stealing a total of 212 million won (about 152,000 ringgit).

Additionally, the employee also targeted 150 million won (about 454,000 ringgit) and 20,000 U.S. dollars (about 84,000 ringgit) in cash kept in the office, smuggling the money out by placing it in paper bags or jacket pockets.

It is understood that after stealing the money, the employee used it for online gambling. The Chuncheon District Court judge harshly criticized him for stealing nearly 400 million won from the bank in such a short period. However, taking into account that he had returned part of the money, the concerned parties requested leniency, and his willingness to overcome his gambling addiction, the final sentence was set at 8 months in prison.
