6.9-Magnitude Earthquake Hits Central Philippines, At Least 26 Dead

A powerful 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Cebu Province in central Philippines on the evening of the 30th, leaving at least 26 people dead and 147 injured.

As rescue operations continue, the number of casualties may continue to rise.
In Cebu, many people ran outside the buildings.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located in Bogo City, Cebu Province. The number of injured admitted to local hospitals keeps rising, putting immense pressure on medical staff.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology initially rated the quake as magnitude 6.7 but later revised it to 6.9.

The earthquake caused at least two bridges in Medellin, Cebu Province to be damaged, partially disrupting road traffic. Many roads and bridges in the town of Tabogon, within the province, also developed cracks and were cut off by the quake.

After the earthquake, nearby provinces such as Leyte, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar also felt strong tremors.

The Philippines is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire and is prone to frequent seismic activity.
