A retired California Highway Patrol officer accidentally acquired a collection of unreleased songs by the late pop music icon Michael Jackson. However, the world may never have the chance to hear these works.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Gregg Musgrove obtained these recordings from a colleague. His colleague purchased the contents of a storage unit in Van Nuys, which happened to include these tapes. The storage unit once belonged to music producer Bryan Loren, who collaborated with artists like Whitney Houston and Sting. These recordings were made prior to the 1991 Grammy-nominated album Dangerous, including cassettes and digital tapes of 12 unreleased tracks.
For many fans, it is unfortunate that Musgrove's hired attorney was informed by the Michael Jackson estate that all music recordings and rights belong to the estate, thus preventing these recordings from being publicly released. One of these songs is titled “Don’t Believe It,” evidently his response to allegations of sexual abuse of minors. Another track “Truth on Youth” features what seems to be a rap duet with LL Cool J. Musgrove also mentioned that the recordings include Michael’s voice, sounding like he and Loren are discussing song creation and processes. “Hearing Michael actually speak and joke is really cool,” he said. He plans to offer these tapes to a major auction house, expecting there will be many eager bidders.
