(Julau, 25th) A man, dissatisfied with being admonished for playing with firearms, shot and killed an elderly man with a hunting gun. The incident occurred yesterday morning at a longhouse in Sungai Minus Entabai, Julau.
This case happened at around 11 am. The 69-year-old victim was shot at close range in the yard of the longhouse, suffering severe injuries to his right shoulder and was later pronounced dead.
It is understood that the deceased had just returned from the oil palm plantation and was washing his feet. A man living in the same longhouse suddenly rushed out from his room and opened fire.
Julau District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Alif Haiqal Ramesh Abdullah, stated that the suspect used an SBBL 12-gauge double-barreled shotgun, and the single shot caused the victim serious injuries.

He said that a longhouse resident witnessed the incident but hid out of fear; another resident, though threatened and intimidated at gunpoint by the suspect, bravely assisted the wounded victim.
"The injured victim was then escorted to Klinik Kesihatan Nanga Entaih for emergency treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries."
He stated that the police, after receiving the report, launched a manhunt by the Julau District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department and arrested the 43-year-old suspect in the same longhouse at 1:35 pm.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was unhappy because the deceased had earlier that morning advised him not to play with firearms and threatened to report him to the police, triggering the fatal incident.
Police investigations showed that the shotgun and ammunition were legally owned by the suspect’s mother, but the suspect took them without permission. The case is currently being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code (Murder).
