(Miri, 26th) The Miri Dusong Chinpa Garu Buddhist Association will hold the upcoming “2026 Wesak Day Buddha Bathing, Light Offering and Charity Rice Donation Event” on the morning of May 31st at the association’s premises, located at Lot 2111 under the Buddhist hall’s Ruyi Wishing Pavilion, next to the Tenth Mile Pasar in Miri. All Buddhist friends and devotees from all walks of life are warmly welcomed to attend the Buddha bathing activity.
Lama Sande from Nepal arrived in Miri on the 25th of this month and will preside over the chanting ceremony for Wesak Day.
At that time, the Buddhist association will, at 8:30 am on Wesak Day, formally invite Guest of Honor Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Lawyer Zhao Junwen, Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism, Lawyer Dato Sebastian Ting, Miri Mayor Cr Adam Yii Siew Sang, the association’s Permanent Honorary Advisor Hii Pau Han, Permanent Honorary President Wu Ke Ming, and several advisors to jointly officiate the lamp lighting, light offering, and Buddha bathing ceremonies.
The charity rice donation activity will commence at 9:00 am on the same day.
The association warmly invites all Buddhist friends and devotees from every community to actively participate in the Buddha bathing ceremony and form good affinities. Buddha bathing time is from 7:00 am to 1:00 pm on that day. Offerings such as lotus candles and fresh flowers are prepared at the Ruyi Wishing Pavilion under the hall for devotees to purchase for offering. Vegetarian food will also be provided for all attendees free of charge.
According to association president Mr. Lim Jiangfu, as in previous years, the association will conduct the charity rice donation at 9:00 am on Wesak Day. The recipients are needy families recommended by various groups and individuals. He expressed gratitude for the contributions from business owners, Buddhist friends, and kind-hearted individuals, allowing more poor families to benefit.
He mentioned that the association faces a funding shortfall for this year’s Wesak Day celebrations and calls on business owners, Buddhist friends, and devotees to generously donate, sponsor, and contribute—creating boundless merits.
He stated that to promote the teachings of the Buddha and the significance of Wesak Day, the association opens its charitable rice donation and donation activities to the public every year. As stated in Buddhist scriptures: If a person practices giving, they will be free from the paths of hungry ghosts for lifetimes, forever leave behind poverty, cut off all troubles, enjoy endless abundance, and receive all happiness.
