MIRI: 24 March 2015 -The Inner Wheel District 331 held its 13th Annual General Meeting (DAGM) in grand style at a local hotel here, combining formal proceedings, heartfelt speeches, and cultural celebration in a memorable weekend hosted by the Inner Wheel Club, IWC Miri.
Presiding over the AGM was District Chairman (DC) Cecilia Amid, who in her opening address welcomed delegates warmly, saying, “As we transition into the next centennial celebration in May 2024, it’s been particularly special to lead the district during this landmark year.”
She reflected on key achievements, including the expansion of clubs, successful campaigns like “Orange the World”, and ongoing collaboration across clubs and leadership levels.
She expressed deep appreciation for the district’s resilience and progress, stating, “Our growth is not the work of one individual but the result of teamwork, vision, and determination.”
Cecilia also praised the unwavering dedication of member clubs and committees, noting that District 331 now comprises six active clubs and continues to expand with purpose and passion. The clubs are IWC Kota Kinabalu, IWC Sandakan, IWC Freesia Rose, all in Sabah, IWC Kuching, IWC Sibu and IWC Miri, all in Sarawak.
A total of 25 voting delegates and observers from all the Clubs except Sandakan attended the AGM held on last Saturday (22.3.25)
During the AGM, delegates voted on a significant motion to implement a rotation system for hosting future DAGMs among all member clubs. The proposal aimed at fostering greater inclusion, exposure, and participation, passed with 18 votes in favour and two against, signalling a bold step towards inter-club unity. “This motion represents a spirit of opportunity and fairness,” Cecilia noted, calling it a new chapter of shared responsibility.

The AGM also saw the election of a new District Executive Committee (DEXCO) for the 2025–2026 term (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026). The newly elected team is as follows:
Jane Lian Labang as District Chairman, taking over from Cecilia Amid, Emmeline Tan (IWC Kota Kinabalu) as Vice District Chairman, succeeding Cherylyn William who is the new District Treasurer, taking over from Rozinah @ Gina Yaakob. Gina is the new District Secretary, succeeding Jacqueline Lian Labang, who completed a dedicated three-year term. Three others continue their current term: Alice Lau, as Extension Chairman, Datin Rubina Pung, as International Service Organiser (ISO) and Cecilia Sman, as District Editor
Cecilia come July takes on the role of Immediate Past District Chairman (IPDC), while Rokiah Staun steps down to observe a one-year rest from EXCO duties as per the district constitution.
National Representative (NR) Shanti Menon in her address, expressed admiration for District 331’s vibrancy and resilience. “While District 331 may be small in number, you are big in heart,” she said.
Shanti also commended the district’s effort in visiting District 330 to meet IIW President Mamta Gupta, calling it a strong gesture of unity and purpose.
Highlighting District 331’s active role in campaigns such as “Orange the World” and Cervical Cancer Awareness and Prevention, she praised the district for its outreach, collaboration with government bodies, and efforts in raising awareness. “Your projects, particularly in gender-based violence prevention and women’s health, are commendable and inspiring,” she said.
Shanti also acknowledged the strong leadership and teamwork under Cecilia Amid, saying, “DC Cecilia and her team have not only delivered impactful projects but have also inspired purpose and transformation.”
She concluded with a hopeful message, encouraging the district to bring in younger members, establish more clubs, and embrace innovation. “Let us continue to serve with compassion, courage, and joy. Together, we have made a meaningful difference, and together, we will achieve even more.”
