On the 13th, a shooting at Brown University, a prestigious school in Rhode Island, resulted in 2 deaths and 9 injuries. Sources revealed the suspect is Benjamin Erickson, a 24-year-old man from Wisconsin, who was arrested at a hotel in Coventry, Rhode Island.
According to CNN, sources stated that police believe Benjamin Erickson traveled from Wisconsin to Rhode Island and committed the shooting at Brown University. Investigators tracked his stay at a hotel in Coventry and subsequently apprehended him there.
It is understood that when police questioned Erickson about his whereabouts on the 13th, he claimed he had stayed in his room the whole time. However, police also found a revolver and a Glock pistol with a laser sight in the room.
FBI agent Patel posted on social platform X that the FBI's Operational Data Analysis Task Force pinpointed the suspect's location using mobile tracking information.
Seven of the injured are currently in stable condition, with one person still critical but stable, and another already discharged.
According to the nonprofit research group Gun Violence Archive, this shooting is among nearly 400 mass shootings in the United States so far this year, leaving members of one of America's oldest universities deeply unsettled. The university has announced the cancellation of remaining exams and courses.
