Sim Kui Hian Distributes Aid Funds to Ease the Burden of Fire Victims in Four Constituency Houses

(Kuching, 29th) Four low-cost residential units along Jalan Batu Kawa were recently damaged to varying degrees by a fire. Batu Kawa assemblyman Dato Sri Dr. Sim Kui Hian visited the site after the incident and distributed aid funds.

Immediately after the incident, staff from the Batu Kawa Service Centre and city councillors visited the scene and provided necessary assistance.

After inspecting the homes destroyed by fire, Sim Kui Hian promptly handed over aid funds to help the affected residents get through this challenging period.

The relevant authorities will also actively follow up and provide necessary support, including applications for reconstruction and related matters.

Sim Kui Hian expressed his gratitude to the fire department for controlling the blaze in time, which prevented a more severe situation.

On another note, since 2018, Sim Kui Hian, through the Sarawak government’s House Repair Program, has helped repair the homes of 567 impoverished households in his constituency, with total expenditures amounting to RM7.65 million.

This repair program also covers those whose homes were severely damaged by disasters such as storms or fires.

According to the house repair guidelines set by the Sarawak government, applicants must be registered with the Department of Social Welfare as impoverished and in need of assistance. The maximum repair cost for each project is RM15,000.

Each selection is carried out through an open and transparent process. Application documents must be recommended and endorsed by local community leaders, and then assessed, reviewed, and approved by a committee composed of several units.

This Sarawak government aid program is open to applicants from all ethnic groups who are in need.
