Hong Lichuan: Anglers Club Embraces a New Chapter, Uniting Strength to Drive Development

(Miri, 27th) — Miri Anglers Club President Hong Lichuan stated that the official inauguration of the new committee signifies the continuation of responsibility and a new beginning. He firmly believes that under the leadership of the new team, the club will continue to develop steadily, further uniting the strength of its members and promoting the rooting and growth of fishing culture locally.

He pointed out that, moving forward, the club will also introduce new elements to attract more young people to join, allowing fishing—a healthy and beneficial outdoor activity—to be passed on. They also plan to organize more related activities, including skills sharing sessions, environmental conservation initiatives, and parent-child experiential events, so that fishing becomes not just a competitive sport but a lifestyle culture.

Hong Lichuan delivered these remarks last night at the Miri Anglers Club 2026-2027 Committee Inauguration Ceremony and Rapala Cast Fishing Competition Awards Ceremony, held at the Grand Palace Hotel.

He said, since the club’s founding in 1997, it has gone through over twenty years of growth—from a group of like-minded fishing enthusiasts to becoming an influential and well-established organization, thanks to the selfless dedication of past committees and the long-term support of its members.

He expressed gratitude to Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin for his longstanding care and support for the club, which has contributed to its steady growth. He also thanked the Sarawak Tourism Board for its continual backing, allowing the "Miri City International Deep Sea Fishing Competition" to be successfully held for thirteen consecutive years, gradually building its own brand and bringing visibility and popularity to Miri.

He indicated that, in the future, the club hopes to strengthen cooperation with the city council to promote community activities and ecological awareness, not only advancing fishing as a sport but also adding vitality to the city.

Additionally, he noted that the Rapala Cast Fishing Competition was held smoothly and concluded successfully, thanks to the enthusiastic participation of all contestants. The competition was not only a showcase of skill but also a platform for forging friendships, and he congratulated all the winners.

In conjunction with the inauguration, the Miri Anglers Club hosted the Rapala Artificial Lure Casting Competition at the Miri estuary in the morning, followed by the awards presentation that evening.

The guest of honor for the inauguration ceremony was Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin. Invited guests included Leong Ah Long (representing Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Teo Juean Man), Miri City Councillor Tan Lee Ren (representing Deputy Minister for Tourism, Sarawak Dato Sebastian Chin), Miri Mayor and Pujut State Assemblywoman Yii Siu Chin, as well as numerous consultants and committee representatives from Bintulu Marine Club and Sibu Angling Club.
