The Hong Kong Security Bureau on Saturday (January 3) updated its outbound travel alert webpage with additional information regarding Venezuela, reminding Hong Kong residents planning to travel to or already in the country to stay alert.

According to online media "HK01," the Security Bureau updated its outbound travel alert webpage on Saturday night with additional information concerning Venezuela, stating that explosions have occurred in several areas of the country, including the capital Caracas, and that local authorities have declared a nationwide state of emergency. The Security Bureau reminds Hong Kong residents planning to visit or already in the country to stay alert, heighten vigilance, pay attention to safety, and avoid demonstrations or places where crowds gather.

The Hong Kong Immigration Department also stated that it has immediately checked the situation through the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, the Chinese Embassy in Venezuela, and the Travel Industry Authority. So far, it has not received any requests for assistance from Hong Kong residents. The department will continue to stay in close contact and closely monitor developments.

Regarding the United States’ military strike against Venezuela and the capture of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife, China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Saturday night, expressing deep shock at the US’s blatant use of force against a sovereign country and action against its president, and condemning it in the strongest terms.

US President Trump posted on his social platform Truth Social on Saturday, stating that Maduro and his wife Flores have been arrested. He said, "The United States has successfully carried out a large-scale operation against Venezuela and its leaders. President Maduro and his wife have been apprehended and deported."
