The 2025 'Double North World Masters Games' (abbreviated as World Masters Games) will grandly take place from May 17 to 30, attracting more than ten thousand veteran athletes from around the world. Among the participants, one elderly competitor stands out; he is Kunling's 90-year-old grandfather Quinlivan Laurence James, who is also the grandfather-in-law of pop king Jay Chou.
Quinlivan Laurence James was a talented athlete from a young age, having won the shot put championship in the Australian high school track and field championships during his student years. Even at the age of 90, he continues to train rigorously. Last year (2024), he participated in the Taipei Evergreen International Track and Field Championships, winning the men's 85-year-old group 100-meter event with a time of 20.53 seconds. The footage of his race was personally shared by Jay Chou, who wrote admiringly, '90 years old and still doesn't want to lose,' expressing his respect for his grandfather-in-law.
Now, Quinlivan Laurence James is once again participating in competitive sports, officially registering for this year's World Masters Games, where he will compete in the 100 meters, 200 meters sprint, javelin, discus, and shot put events. His participation spans both track and field events, making him one of the oldest all-around competitors in this edition.
According to Shu-Hua Chen, director of the Evergreen Sports Association of the Republic of China, Kunling's grandfather has already begun actively preparing for the competition, with admirable physical fitness and willpower.
