Lee Kim Shin: Sports Promote Unity and Cooperation, Encourages More Organizations to Conduct Cross-Sector Activities

(Miri, 3rd) Sarawak Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that sports activities not only help promote a healthy lifestyle but also serve as an important platform for strengthening connections between the government and the private sector, promoting cooperation across various fields.

He made the above remarks in a speech read by his representative, Phang Siau Wei, at the opening ceremony of the "2025 SHEDA Miri Branch Cross-Agency Badminton Friendly Match," organized by the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers’ Association (SHEDA) Miri Branch. Due to official duties, Lee Kim Shin was unable to attend in person but specially appointed a representative to attend, showing his attention and support for the event.

Lee Kim Shin thanked the organizers for the invitation and congratulated the SHEDA Miri Branch for hosting this meaningful event for the first time.

“This activity is very commendable, as it brings together government agencies, developers, and industry stakeholders under the sports spirit, enhancing communication and cooperation through badminton.”

He pointed out that this event has also been included as one of the key activities in the "2025 Miri May Fest" series, showcasing Miri as a vibrant sports and tourism city. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of Miri's elevation to city status, making the event even more commemorative.

“Today's activity is not just about competition, but it symbolizes our shared commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and strengthening public-private connections. Sports activities like badminton are an excellent platform for communication and understanding between the industry and public institutions.”

He praised the diversity and inclusiveness of this friendly match, which has five categories including men's doubles, women's doubles, and veterans. Participating entities cover government departments, developers, engineers, lawyers, and professionals from various fields, demonstrating the unifying power of sports.

Lee Kim Shin also commended the SHEDA Miri Branch for establishing a relationship-building platform in a relaxed and friendly manner, and he is looking forward to further strengthening friendships and cooperation at the closing banquet to be held on May 4 at the Piasau Boat Club.

“As a state assemblyman for Senadin and a long-time supporter of sports development, I welcome more such events to be organized, allowing the community to grow together in health, unity, and cooperation.”

He wished all participants a successful competition and hoped that there would be more opportunities for cross-sector exchanges and cooperation among institutions in the future.
