(Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) The 3rd Regional Meeting of the Southeast Asia Anti-Trafficking in Persons Committee was held from the 7th to the 9th of this month in Makati City, Republic of the Philippines. Superintendent Manaf, Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force and Chairman of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Working Committee, attended as a representative. The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Nicholas Felix Lopez, Undersecretary for Anti-Trafficking in Persons Affairs at the Philippine Department of the Interior and Local Government, with representatives from ASEAN countries in attendance.
The meeting was jointly organized by the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) and the Embassy of the Netherlands in the Philippines to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Manila International Dialogue on Counter-Trafficking. This event focused particularly on national committees responsible for handling the issue of trafficking in persons (TIP) in ASEAN countries. ASEAN member states highlighted the initiative to establish a regional-level, cross-sectoral national committee cooperation mechanism, aiming to build a regional coordination and consultation platform to jointly address concerns including human trafficking cases, policy formulation, project planning, and best practices.
