A monastery in a village in Myanmar’s Sagaing Region was attacked on the 11th, resulting in at least 23 deaths. The victims include four children.
The head of the Sagaing Township government, Laibwa, said the monastery, located in Lintalu Village, was attacked in the early hours of the day.
He pointed out that the monastery was sheltering about 200 people who had been displaced due to clashes between the military and pro-democracy forces in the nearby area.
He accused the Myanmar military government of carrying out the attack.
The Sagaing Township government consists of a pro-democracy organization responsible for administering parts of the central region.
Lintalu resident Phikain told media that, in addition to the 23 confirmed dead, there were more people injured in the attack.
He said, "We are evacuating patients needing urgent medical treatment, which is part of our ongoing rescue efforts."
