(Kuching, 15th) "The vehicle suddenly moved and then fell straight into the river."
This is how a witness described a thrilling moment when a four-wheel drive vehicle was reported to have fallen from the Tun Salahuddin Bridge into the Sarawak River.
Currently, the scene is filled with the sound of sirens and the engines of rescue boats.
The Sarawak branch of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) is actively conducting a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation under the bridge connecting Petra Jaya and Kuching city center.
According to a JBPM spokesperson, the emergency call was received at 10:07 PM, and a team was dispatched from the Tabuan Jaya fire station, approximately 4 kilometers away from the accident site.
"The firetruck arrived at 10:11 PM, and according to preliminary information provided by the witness, the vehicle was seen parked by the riverbank around 10 PM.
"This vehicle, parked facing the river, suddenly moved on its own, got briefly stuck on the bridge's iron frame before completely falling into the river," the spokesperson revealed to reporters.
Currently, the victim's identity and vehicle type are yet to be determined. JBPM's Water Rescue Team (PPDA) is prepared to launch a diving rescue operation tonight.
The overcast weather and swift river current pose challenges to the rescue efforts, but the rescue teams are still giving their best, standing firm at their post.
