(Taiwan, 29th) On the 28th, Taiwan's 'Mainland Affairs Council' released its latest poll results via a press release, showing that nearly 80% of the public do not support Mainland China's 'One Country, Two Systems' policy, and nearly 90% do not agree to accept 'One Country, Two Systems' or 'peaceful unification.' The Council stated that mainstream public opinion in Taiwan supports the government's cross-strait policy position and opposes Mainland China's unification proposals and pressure tactics against Taiwan.

According to United Daily News, the press release indicated that the survey shows the people of Taiwan firmly oppose Mainland China's 'One Country, Two Systems', 'peaceful unification' political proposals, and actions such as diplomatic suppression that undermine peace in the Taiwan Strait; and support the government's cross-strait policy stance to strengthen self-defense and maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.

The Council indicated that nearly 80% of the public do not approve of Mainland China's 'One Country, Two Systems' proposal (79.7%), and nearly 90% do not agree to accept 'One Country, Two Systems' or 'peaceful unification', even if it means losing freedom and democracy (87.1%). 82.2% do not agree with Mainland China's actions to obstruct the Taiwanese president's plane from visiting diplomatic allies, and nearly 50% believe it is Mainland China that is undermining peace in the Taiwan Strait (47.4%).

The Council pointed out that this poll reflects mainstream public opinion in Taiwan supporting the cross-strait policy position of mutual non-subordination and strengthening self-defense capabilities, as well as maintaining the current state of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. 72.6% of the public agree with the statement 'The Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other'; over 80% of the public support 'The future of Taiwan must be decided by its 23 million people together' (88.0%) and the view that 'The most important thing for Taiwan right now is to maintain the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait' (85.6%); more than 70% support the government increasing the national defense budget to enhance self-defense (71.9%).

The Mainland Affairs Council announced that this survey was commissioned to Ipsos Market Research, conducted by telephone interviews with adults over the age of 20 in Taiwan from May 22 to 23 and 25 to 26 this year, with 1,073 valid samples, a confidence level of 95%, and a sampling error of ±2.99%.
