Chan Chuo Yao: Cultural Activities Help Promote Creative Economy and Enhance Sarawak’s Tourism Appeal

(Miri, 18th) Sarawak Deputy Minister of Tourism and Piasau constituency state assemblyman Dato Chan Chuo Yao stated that activities such as the Sarawak Arts, Handicrafts, and Music Carnival not only showcase Sarawak’s rich and unique cultural heritage, but also help strengthen the development of the creative economy and support local artists and performers.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the “2026 Sarawak Arts, Handicrafts, and Music Carnival,” jointly organized by JK Art & Culture Enterprise and SACHS Malaysia and held at Miri Imperial City Mall yesterday, Deputy Minister of Tourism Dato Chan Chuo Yao made these remarks.
He said that this carnival is a highly meaningful event that reflects Sarawak’s efforts in preserving, promoting, and enhancing its cultural heritage.
“This event brings together artisans, performers, and creative workers from various regions, providing an excellent platform for cultural exchange, innovation, and art appreciation.”

He said that Sarawak possesses a diverse culture, traditions, and artistic expression. Events such as this not only highlight Sarawak’s cultural characteristics, but also further promote the development of cultural tourism and creative industries.

Chan Chuo Yao pointed out that the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts has always encouraged more activities that can promote cultural tourism and creative industries, and regards them as important drivers for economic growth.

“Such carnival activities not only aid tourism development, but also attract tourists and further establish Sarawak as a major regional cultural tourism destination.”

He also praised JK Art & Culture Enterprise, SACHS Malaysia, and all partners for their efforts and contributions in organizing the event.

“Your dedication to promoting the spirit of arts, handicrafts, and music culture is commendable and aligns with our shared goals of preserving and passing on our cultural heritage.”

He called upon the public to actively participate in the carnival, to personally experience Sarawak’s vibrant arts and culture, and to support the development of the local creative industry through concrete action.
