(Miri, 31st) With the continuous development of the surrounding areas and increasing traffic volume, Sarawak Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin stated that the road upgrade project from Niuchang Village to the hospital in Miri is expected to commence next year to alleviate traffic congestion.

He revealed that Padang Kerbau Road will be upgraded to a dual carriageway to meet the needs of surrounding developments. In addition, several other roads are also planned for expansion, including Sunshine Road and the construction of a river-crossing bridge at Miri Estuary.

Lee Kim Shin, who is also the state assemblyman for Senadin, announced this during a fund allocation handover ceremony at the Senadin Service Center this morning. He mentioned that several projects in Miri for 2024 are already underway, such as the Kuala Baram riverbed dredging project at Miri Port. Upon completion, Miri will have a deep-sea port. Miri will continue to progress and prosper as the deep-sea port is a crucial project for Miri. Once the riverbed dredging is completed, Kuala Baram will become a thriving seaport and city, which is a long-term plan.

"When the Prime Minister visited Miri this year, I had the opportunity to personally request the Miri Airport expansion project plan from him, which was agreed and announced that evening. It was also announced in the recent parliamentary budget that funds would be allocated for the implementation of the Sarawak Miri Airport expansion project."

He stated that this year, Miri is also the first city in Sarawak to provide free smart public bus services, encouraging the public to actively use public bus services to travel by bus, or to bring their families and children on weekends to experience bus travel while enjoying the sights of Miri city.
