Sultan Meets with Anutin: Focus on Trade, Investment, and People-to-People Exchanges

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, during the APEC Economic Leaders' Informal Dialogue, held a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the long-standing friendly and close cooperative relationship between Brunei and Thailand.

During the meeting, His Majesty emphasized that cooperation between Brunei and Thailand in the fields of trade, investment, education, defense, and people-to-people exchanges has continued to deepen, demonstrating the solid foundation of their bilateral relations.

His Majesty highly appreciated Thailand's long-standing support for Brunei in the area of food security, particularly its important role in the supply of rice and sugar, as well as its recent positive contributions in assisting Brunei to establish nurseries.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues and explored topics of mutual interest, with a view to further strengthening cooperation on multilateral and regional platforms.

His Majesty the Sultan also congratulated Thailand on its upcoming hosting of the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) and wished for the event’s smooth preparation and complete success. His Majesty also invited Prime Minister Anutin to visit Brunei at an appropriate time to maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Brunei and Thailand have maintained close ties, with cooperation covering areas such as trade, agriculture, and defense. The two countries have also continued to promote people-to-people exchanges and regional cooperation through the ASEAN framework.

Both sides agreed to continue to enhance existing cooperation through high-level reciprocal visits and mechanisms such as the Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC), further promoting bilateral relations to new heights.
