Construction of New Road in Mendanau Solves Old Road Flooding Issues

(Mendanau, 19th) In order to solve the long-standing flooding and road submergence problems faced by residents, a new road will be built in Rumah Panjang Landin, Sungai Kemutan, Ketulon, to facilitate residents’ daily commute.
This project is initiated by the Sarawak government through the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), with an investment of RM50,000. The road will be 190 meters long, paved with cement, and will connect Rumah Panjang Landin and Rumah Jawei.
Maradong constituency councilor Dato Chieng Kuan Hoon pointed out that the existing road is often submerged during heavy rain or high tide, severely affecting the safety and mobility of the residents. Upon completion, the new road will provide a safer and more comfortable alternative route.
Yesterday (18th), while attending the site handover ceremony at Rumah Panjang Landin, he also reminded the Sibu Irrigation and Drainage Department (DID) to ensure that the contractor adheres to construction standards and completes the project within the specified period.
"This project must be completed within three months, which is from August 18th to November 19th." he said.
He added that the RTP plan demonstrates the state government’s determination to improve rural infrastructure, enabling rural residents to enjoy a better quality of life.
