(Kuala Lumpur, 23rd) Continuous heavy rainfall in Songkhla Province, Thailand, has caused flooding in many areas. Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that around 4,000 Malaysians in the affected area have been impacted, but all are safe and sound; some have experienced power outages and food supply issues.
In a statement issued on Saturday (22nd), the Foreign Ministry said it is closely monitoring the disaster situation through the Consulate General in Songkhla and the Embassy in Bangkok.
"As of this afternoon, around 4,000 Malaysian citizens in Hatyai and surrounding areas have been affected by the floods. All affected citizens are safe, as most are staying in multi-storey hotels. However, some citizens are experiencing temporary power outages and difficulties in food supply due to localised power failures."
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that Thai authorities have been fully mobilised and are actively addressing the disaster.
Meteorological forecasts indicate that the heavy rain is expected to stop tomorrow, and water levels are expected to gradually recede. The overall situation is expected to improve by November 24 (Monday).
The Consulate General of Malaysia in Songkhla has activated a task force to assist stranded or needy Malaysians and is maintaining close communication with local authorities, hotels, and Malaysian groups.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds Malaysians in Hatyai and surrounding areas to stay indoors as much as possible, follow local government instructions, and remain vigilant in flood-affected areas.
Malaysians who have not yet registered are urged to do so with the Consulate General or the Embassy as soon as possible.
