(Japan, 16th) On the 13th, Chiba Prefecture in Japan experienced torrential rains. On the 16th, Japanese media reported that the death toll has risen to 9, with one person still missing.

It is estimated that about 1,000 houses in Chiba Prefecture have sustained varying degrees of damage. While electricity has been restored to all customers, about 50 households are still without water due to damaged roads and water pipes. Around 1,200 cars were destroyed on roads due to flooding. Currently, 563 people are staying temporarily at evacuation centers.

Chiba Prefecture Governor Toshihito Kumagai described the rainfall as highly unusual: "The volume of rain that fell in just 12 hours was about three times the average rainfall for the entire month of August in the area." He admitted he had never encountered a disaster like this before. The Meteorological Agency has officially named this disaster the "August 2024 Chiba Record Rainfall," marking the first time since 2020 that a major torrential rain disaster has been named.

The Chiba Prefectural Government is currently stepping up post-disaster water removal, cleaning, and road restoration work, while cooperating with police and fire services to continue searching for the missing person.
