(Jakarta, 18th — Comprehensive News) Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will focus on economic integration and cooperation in the fields of energy and food at the ASEAN-Russia Summit held in Kazan, Russia.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wahid Nabil stated on Thursday that Retno, as the head of the Indonesian delegation, is attending the ASEAN-Russia Summit on June 17-18, 2026, on behalf of President Prabowo Subianto.
"At the meeting, Indonesia will advocate for strengthened cooperation, particularly in food and energy security, as well as regional economic integration," Nabil said in a recorded statement.
He added that Indonesia will also promote cooperation to advance global peace and stability at the summit. The Kazan Summit aims to review the 35-year partnership between ASEAN and Russia and chart the way forward for future cooperation.
Nabil pointed out that future cooperation between ASEAN and Russia must keep pace with the times and effectively respond to regional and global issues.
"The Foreign Minister's attendance at the summit on behalf of the President underscores Indonesia's commitment to building a concrete and mutually beneficial partnership with Russia, both bilaterally and within the ASEAN cooperation framework," he said.
The ASEAN-Russia Kazan Summit is being held concurrently with the 35th anniversary celebrations of the ASEAN-Russia partnership. Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated at the summit's welcome dinner on Wednesday that Russia is ready to continue deepening its strategic partnership with ASEAN.
Putin stated that the partnership with ASEAN is crucial for ensuring the safety, well-being, and prosperity of all nations and peoples, as well as the development of the entire Eurasian region.
Meanwhile, Minister of State and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi said on Wednesday that President Prabowo remained in the country to handle domestic affairs, appointing Retno to attend this summit on his behalf.
Previously, on April 13, Prabowo had already met with President Putin and attended the 48th ASEAN Summit held in Cebu, Philippines, where he held talks with several ASEAN leaders.
