Chinese Companies Repeatedly Attacked, China Calls on UN to Sanction the Balochistan Liberation Army

China's "Belt and Road" projects in Pakistan have suffered repeated attacks in recent years, with the local "Balochistan Liberation Army" regarded as the main orchestrator behind these incidents. On Eastern Standard Time June 6th, Geng Shuang, China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed a UN meeting and called for the "Balochistan Liberation Army" and its "Majeed Brigade" to be placed under sanctions.

According to information released on the official website of China's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Geng Shuang declared that China is a victim of terrorism. He noted that the "East Turkistan Islamic Movement" (ETIM, advocating Xinjiang independence) is an internationally recognized terrorist organization as listed by the UN Security Council, has "carried out multiple terrorist attacks within China," and continues to be active in places like Syria and Afghanistan.

Geng Shuang said that China calls on all parties to take effective actions to jointly combat and eliminate terrorist forces such as ETIM, particularly urging that the "Balochistan Liberation Army" and its "Majeed Brigade" be added to the list of sanctioned entities.

Geng Shuang added that at present, terrorism is spreading and escalating, terrorist threats are resurging globally, and the international counter-terrorism situation has become even more severe and complex. China has put forward three points for eliminating terrorism: First, to uphold unified standards and build an international counter-terrorism consensus; Second, to adhere to international law and improve the legal framework for counter-terrorism; Third, to maintain a systematic approach and launch a comprehensive international counter-terrorism campaign.

However, Geng Shuang also stated that counter-terrorism efforts must not employ double standards, nor should they be selective in combating terrorism. China opposes linking terrorism with any particular country, ethnic group, or religion, and is against the politicization or instrumentalization of counter-terrorism issues.

In recent years, the "Balochistan Liberation Army" and its main force, the "Majeed Brigade," have repeatedly attacked Chinese "Belt and Road" projects within Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of several local Chinese company employees—these companies being contractors under the "Belt and Road" initiative.

In addition, on November 23, 2018, three members of the "Balochistan Liberation Army" drove into the Chinese Consulate-General in Karachi, where they engaged in a fierce gunfight with the on-site police, resulting in the deaths of seven people.
