Lee Khim Seng: Red Crescent Volunteers' Selfless Dedication Worth Emulating

(Miri, 27th) Sarawak Minister of Transport and Advisor to Miri Red Crescent Society, Datuk Seri Lee Khim Seng, stated that the official theme for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2025 is “On the Side of Humanity”, calling on everyone to ignite the spirit of humanity within us and work together to build a more loving and united world.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of the 2025 Annual Drill event organized by the Miri Red Crescent Society at the Miri City Council Field this morning, he said that the theme also pays tribute to the compassion, neutrality, and spirit of solidarity upheld by Red Cross and Red Crescent volunteers globally.
 

Lee Khim Seng pointed out that, as in previous years, the Miri Red Crescent Society tirelessly organizes various activities in conjunction with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, such as environmental camps, youth camps, hospital visits, storytelling competitions, charity sales week and flag-day fundraising activities. These activities are not only significant but also encourage the participation of the Miri public in public welfare undertakings.
“We believe that the spirit of volunteerism cultivated in the Red Crescent Society from student days can nurture a new generation of youths who are not only knowledgeable but also kind-hearted, responsible, and possess upright character.”
He emphasized that, in today’s increasingly challenging world with frequent natural disasters, ongoing humanitarian crises, and global uncertainties, the Red Crescent Society as a frontline force in providing assistance is especially precious. Regardless of when and where, and regardless of conditions, Red Crescent volunteers bravely step forward to devote themselves; their resilience, courage, and spirit of dedication are worthy of emulation.
He also expressed heartfelt thanks to all those who support the Red Crescent Society behind the scenes, including advisor teachers, coaches, parents and members of all walks of life.
“I hope that all members of the Red Crescent Society will continue to maintain this selfless and noble spirit, making the experiences gained in the Red Crescent Society the most precious asset in life. Although personal contributions may seem small, persistence and sincere dedication can yield immense impact.”
He called on everyone to continue working together, upholding the values of humanity, and to use “On the Side of Humanity” as their motto, continuing to give back to society and spread love.
