Zhao Lusi Cuts Ties with Weibo and Switches to Xiaohongshu, Becomes First Artist to Surpass 20 Million Followers

Chinese actress Zhao Lusi has been making headlines recently. First, she announced that she would deactivate her Weibo account, which boasts 31.22 million followers, and pivot her focus entirely to Xiaohongshu. To everyone’s surprise, her popularity hasn’t waned—in fact, she became the first artist on the platform to surpass 20 million followers, setting a new milestone.

On the 13th, Zhao Lusi said during a livestream, “You really need to cancel it for rural development, bye bye,” as she cut off her Weibo account with over 31.22 million followers. As a “VIP user,” the system requires a 15-day cooling-off period for the deletion to finalize. She jokingly commented, “Am I divorcing you? Why a 15-day cooling-off period—what do I need to cool off for?” provoking lively discussion among fans. Many thought she would lose massive traffic after quitting Weibo, but instead, she chose to focus her main operations on Xiaohongshu.

Zhao Lusi emphasized that her actions were not impulsive; she had already communicated with all her cooperating brands, and announced she would no longer participate in fashion week or other commercial activities. Her strategic transition quickly paid off—her followers on Xiaohongshu have now exceeded 22.97 million, making her the first artist on that platform with more than 20 million followers. This move has further proven her overwhelming popularity, transitioning from the “Queen of Weibo” to the “Number One on Xiaohongshu.”

During the Weibo account’s cooling-off period, the fashion brands she endorses quickly reacted by releasing new promotional images, likely hoping to seize promotional opportunities before her Weibo account disappears for good. The brands also posted the new images on their Xiaohongshu accounts, instantly attracting thousands of fans to support their goddess.
