(Kuching, 19th) The action plan formulated by the Sarawak government aims to address global issues involving the region's environmental and economic sustainability.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that global issues such as food security and climate change are beginning to appear in neighboring countries and even other nations.

He cited the impacts of climate change in Vietnam as an example, indicating that due to flooding, the country might not be able to export rice to Malaysia.

"If Vietnam suffers from flooding due to the impacts of climate change, then Vietnam will not be able to export rice, and if Vietnam cannot export rice, Malaysia will face rice shortages."

He made these remarks while speaking at an event themed "Advancing a Sustainable Future - Focusing on Sarawak" at the RAM conference today.

In this regard, Abang Johari endorsed Sarawak's initiative, which proposes policies and further actions for the region to address such issues.

"Our method to overcome such problems is to develop what we call the Sarawak Sustainable Action Plan to coordinate initiatives across all sectors."

He mentioned that through this action plan, Sarawak has 10 strategic cores, adopting a forward-looking integrated approach, capable of addressing climate resilience and sustainable development goals.

At this event, the Sarawak Premier was again awarded the "Sustainable Development Steward of the Year" honor by RAM Holdings Berhad, recognizing his efforts and initiatives in transforming Sarawak into a green and sustainable economy.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Oil Palms Berhad received the silver award for RAM's Sustainable Development Award, while Press Metal and Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) both received the same platinum award respectively.
