Alan Ling: Although the Gas Shortage Issue Has Improved Somewhat, We Hope to Return to Normal Supply Soon

(Miri, 17th) The supply chain of gas cylinders in Miri has been disrupted by a landslide in Bintulu, leading to a shortage. The situation has gradually improved compared to last week, but normal supply as usual has not yet been restored.

Sarawak Democratic Action Party Secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong  conducted a visit this morning to a gas cylinder sales company in the Tudan Industrial Area, and discovered that the authorities have implemented a numbering system to replace the long queues. He hopes this move can alleviate congestion and allow the public to purchase gas cylinders more smoothly.

“The company officials and the Sarawak Gas Company representatives are diligently monitoring the situation. I believe that if the supply chain returns to normal and transportation can operate steadily, the issue will gradually improve.”

As a director of the National Sports Council, Alan Ling also reminded the public that the retail price of household liquefied natural gas remains at 26.60 MYR per cylinder. The public should be vigilant to avoid being victims of overpricing.

He stated that over the past two weeks, he has continuously received inquiries from citizens concerned about the gas cylinder shortage, particularly since it is the school term period and many families and food vendors are experiencing significant inconvenience.
He expressed sympathy for their situation and urged the Sarawak government to strengthen the supply chain further to ensure that regions in Sarawak are not left without emergency response capabilities and contingency measures in the face of natural disasters or man-made accidents.
Currently, while the gas shortage problem has eased, whether the supply chain can return to normalcy remains to be seen, with the Sarawak Gas Company as the sole supplier needing to coordinate and handle this matter actively.
