US President Trump said in a media interview on the 9th that the US military is making a "very tough, very strong" response to Iran shooting down a US helicopter.
According to ABC News, amid US military retaliatory strikes against Iran, Trump was accepting a phone interview with the outlet.
Trump said he believes it is crucial to make a response.
According to Iran's Tasnim News Agency, in the early hours of the 10th local time, explosions were reported in eastern Hormozgan Province, Iran, including the areas of Sirik and Minab.
Additionally, CNN, citing sources, reported that the initial US airstrike targets were air defense and radar systems around the Strait of Hormuz. A US official said the strike was aimed at sending a warning to Iran but that the US did not think it would hinder negotiations to end the war.
Iranian Foreign Minister Aragchi posted on social media on the 10th local time, saying that Iran's armed forces would never ignore any attack or threat, and warned the US, "If you want safety, leave our region."
Aragchi also stated that the US has repeatedly failed on the battlefield but still insists on testing Iran's resolve.
Earlier that day, Trump posted on social media that a US "Apache" attack helicopter was shot down by Iran over the Strait of Hormuz on the evening of the 8th, adding that "the US must respond to this attack." Subsequently, Iran's national television quoted military sources as saying that if the US launches further attacks under the pretext of the military helicopter being shot down, Iran will definitely retaliate.
