(Selangor, 15th) — A house fire broke out for unknown reasons in Banting, Selangor in the early hours of Sunday (February 15). A family of 10 Malay individuals were startled from their sleep and fled in a hurry, but one 6-year-old boy was unable to escape and tragically perished in the blaze. Another 30-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital.

The Selangor Fire & Rescue Headquarters' operations center released a statement on Sunday morning (the 15th), stating that the deadly fire occurred at around 4am. The fierce flames quickly destroyed a double-storey terraced house at Banting Perduli Garden, resulting in one death and one injury among the residents.

The statement revealed that authorities received the fire report at 4:42am and immediately dispatched 2 fire engines and 10 firefighters from the Banting and Telok Panglima Garang Fire & Rescue Stations to respond.

Firefighters only found the charred remains of the boy upstairs after extinguishing the blaze.
“According to a report from the on-scene commander, more than 80% of the terraced house was destroyed by the fire. Of the 10 people living in the house, 9 were rescued, including a 30-year-old Malay man with minor injuries who was later taken to the hospital for treatment.”

“In addition, a 6-year-old Malay boy was trapped inside and unable to escape. The firefighting team only found the boy’s remains after extinguishing the fire at about 6am. Firefighters discovered he was already burned beyond recognition in an upstairs bedroom.”
