Miri – 5 March 2025 – In a significant move aimed at fostering regional collaboration and accelerating socio-economic progress, a delegation from the Regional Corridor Development Authority (RECODA) recently visited Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia), marking the
beginning of a promising collaboration aimed at driving sustainable development in the region.
Representing the Chief Executive Officer of RECODA, Datuk Haji Ismawi bin Haji Ismuni, Director of Corporate Services and proud Curtin alumnus Dr. Hadysyam Junaidi led the visit.
The delegation, which also included Sabrina Razali, Head of Human Resources, and Daniella Lupi Balan, Senior Executive of Communications and External Relations, was warmly received by members of Curtin Malaysia’s leadership team including Sharon Chong, Chief Operating Officer; Professor Roy Rillera Marzo, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences; Professor Pauline Ho,
Dean of the Faculty of Business; and Associate Professor Fidella Tiew, Dean of the School of Pre-U and Continuing Education (SPACE), and Nicholas Leong, Manager of Corporate Affairs, among others.
Dr. Hadysyam provided an insightful briefing on RECODA’s ongoing infrastructure development projects and socio-economic programmes, highlighting their alignment with the Sarawak government ’s rural development agenda through the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as how these initiatives aim to improve connectivity, reduce wealth disparity, and create greater opportunities for the region.
Both parties welcomed the idea of formalising a collaboration between RECODA and Curtin Malaysia through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), laying the foundation for potential future academia-industry joint initiatives that would mutually benefit both parties and the wider community.
The visit underscores both RECODA’s and Curtin Malaysia’s commitment to long-term, impactful collaborations that prioritise sustainable development and socio-economic upliftment for local communities.
