(Chongqing, 4th) Data provided by Chongqing Exit-Entry Border Inspection General Station on the 3rd shows that in the first quarter of 2026, over 137,000 foreign travelers entered through the Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport port, a record high for the same period and a year-on-year increase of 106%.
According to China News Service, the main purpose for foreign travelers entering Chongqing was sightseeing, visiting relatives and friends, and attending meetings or conducting business. Travelers coming for tourism and visiting friends or relatives accounted for 88%, reflecting Chongqing’s increasingly diverse consumption scenes and continuously improving cultural and tourism quality.
In terms of nationality, Asian countries remain the main source, accounting for 77% of all foreign entrants. The top five countries of origin for visitors to Chongqing were Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
In the first quarter of 2026, nearly 100,000 foreign travelers entering through Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport port enjoyed various visa-free policies, a year-on-year increase of 113%, accounting for 74% of the total number of foreign entrants.
Chongqing border inspection authorities, responding to the significant increase in incoming foreign travelers, have implemented measures such as zoned inspections, dynamic police allocation, introduced a "fast-track border inspection" service for foreign tour groups, set up dedicated channels, equipped terminals for foreigners to fill in arrival cards online, and enabled self-service data collection channels for direct transit passengers, continuously improving the quality and efficiency of customs clearance.
According to Chongqing border inspection authorities, in the first quarter of 2026, the total number of entry and exit passengers at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport reached over 730,000, a year-on-year increase of 49%.
