(Bandar Seri Begawan, 16th) Guided by the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association and set up with a donation from the Dazhou Overseas Friendship Association, the "Overseas Panda Book House for Overseas Chinese" was officially launched on August 11th at Chung Hwa Middle School in Brunei. Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Xiao Jianguo and Wenchang School Board Chairman Yang Dezheng unveiled the Book House.
Other guests attending the unveiling ceremony included Vice Chairmen of the school board Lim Ming Jie, Lim Teng Cai, Dato Lee Sin Wei, as well as Principal Hsu Yueh-lan and others.
It is understood that the “Overseas Panda Book House for Overseas Chinese” is a public welfare project established by Sichuan Province to meet the Chinese learning needs of overseas compatriots. By donating books and organizing cultural activities, it serves the spiritual needs of the overseas Chinese community and promotes mutual exchange and learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations.
To promote the dissemination of Chinese culture overseas, enhance the influence of Chinese civilization, and help overseas Chinese youth understand and learn Chinese culture, the Dazhou Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, relying on its humanistic resources and under the guidance of the Sichuan Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, has assisted in establishing the fourth "Overseas Panda Book House for Overseas Chinese" at Wenchang School.
This is also the second "Panda Book House" built and operated by Dazhou in Brunei, after the first book house was established at Seria Chung Hwa School in November 2022. The first batch of donated materials includes 1,000 Chinese books and 200 sets of cultural teaching tools, covering intangible cultural heritage, Bashu culture, classic masterpieces, traditional Chinese medicine culture, among others.
Ambassador Xiao Jianguo highly praised the Book House as "small and beautiful, quick to produce results, and beneficial to people's livelihood", noting that it not only provides high-quality Chinese reading resources for Bruneian Chinese youth, but also sows the seeds of friendship in the hearts of the young people of both countries. He expressed hope that Wenchang School would make full use of the book house, allowing more Bruneian friends to understand and fall in love with China through reading.
School Board Chairman Yang Dezheng stated that the opening of the Book House will further strengthen the bridge of friendship between Sichuan and Brunei, and that the school will continue to maintain and make good use of the book house to meet the learning needs of compatriots.
With the construction of the second "Panda Book House" aided by Dazhou, the "Dazhou-Brunei Panda Book House Alliance" was also launched. Schools from the two regions will carry out a series of activities such as "Reading the Same Book", "Reciting the Same Poem", and "Painting the Same Picture", creating a new landmark of people-to-people connections and a new model for cooperation between Sichuan and overseas Chinese.
