(Kuching, 26th) YB Chong Chieng Jen’s Special Assistant Yong Fung Nian pointed out that since the Chinese New Year, residents of Jalan Kung Phin Heights 2 have been continuously reporting the extremely poor condition of the road. However, months have passed and the authorities remain indifferent. This road doesn't just have ordinary cracks or small potholes, but numerous large and deep potholes that seriously threaten the safety of road users.
“Recently, I personally went to inspect the area and was shocked by the state of the road damage. One of the potholes was both deep and wide; if drivers are unfamiliar with the road, it could easily lead to vehicle damage or even tire blowouts. This situation is absolutely unacceptable.”
The Padawan Municipal Council must be held responsible for their inaction. Citing a so-called “lack of funds” is an untenable excuse, because we have observed large-scale road and beautification works ongoing in the nearby Siburan area.
Therefore, we must ask: Is the Padawan Municipal Council implying that Batu Kitang residents should be marginalized just because their constituency isn’t overseen by a GPS minister? Are public funds and basic infrastructure allocated based on political allegiance, rather than the actual needs of the people?
The residents of Jalan Kung Phin Heights 2, like other Kuching citizens, pay taxes and therefore deserve safe and well-maintained roads. This double standard clearly shows political favoritism and dereliction of duty.
“I strongly urge the Padawan Municipal Council to stop delaying, immediately prioritize the repair of Jalan Kung Phin Heights 2, and not wait for an accident to happen before making amends.”
