Shiming's Death Escalates Family Feud: Ex-husband and Youngest Son Reveal the Inside Story

Veteran Hong Kong artist Shiming passed away from pneumonia on March 21, and unexpectedly, her twin sons, Li Yonghan and Li Yonghao, have seen their discord escalate, leaving the family shattered and unable to reconcile. Recently, Shiming's ex-husband, Li Jiading, whose recent weight loss sparked public concern, broke his silence in an interview with online media 《HK01》, revealing that their elder son Li Yonghan always refused to disclose which hospital Shiming was admitted to and denied both himself and the younger son the chance to visit Shiming. From the time her condition worsened to her passing, both father and younger son were kept in the dark, only being notified by Li Yonghan two days later.

After Shiming’s death, Li Yonghan, who was in charge of the funeral arrangements, notified Li Yonghao to attend the memorial but strictly prohibited his wife Agnes from showing up at the funeral hall, claiming that she had disrespected Shiming for years. Li Jiading hoped the whole family could attend, while Li Yonghao said he would accompany his wife, making the family dispute a renewed focus.

Li Yonghao revealed to the media that his brother invoked a guardianship order at the end of 2024, preventing both him and his father from seeing their mother since then. He said that for over a year, he searched almost all hospitals in Kowloon just trying to see his mother one more time, admitting he felt utterly helpless. He even reported to the police, but due to the guardianship order, the police said it was a family matter and would not intervene.

Speaking about the trigger for the brothers' falling out, Li Yonghao believed it was because his brother and sister-in-law disliked his wife, Agnes. Not only was he kicked out of the family WhatsApp group by his brother, but even his calls were blocked. After their mother suffered a severe injury and lost the ability to communicate, all visits and information transfers became fully controlled by the live-in son, Li Yonghan. Regarding Li Yonghan’s recent use of the word “invite” to allow his brother to attend the funeral, Li Yonghao questioned, “Why is it just an invitation?” and also said he had not received such notice.

Li Yonghan and Li Yonghao both entered the industry as child stars, most notably playing the childhood versions of Xiaoyuer and Hua Wuque in the 1988 TVB drama 'The Proud Twins.' As children, they were inseparable, and even as adults, the brothers maintained a close bond. After Shiming's divorce, she took her two sons to live in the US; after returning to Hong Kong, the three continued living together, and Li Yonghao often helped his brother take care of his nephews, keeping family relations strong.

However, since March 2021, when Li Yonghao started dating his Taiwanese girlfriend Agnes, the brotherhood dramatically changed, evolving from initial disagreements to public feuding. After Shiming's passing, Li Yonghan even issued a ban, forbidding sister-in-law Agnes from entering the memorial hall.

The timeline of the quartet’s falling out is as follows:

March 2021: Li Yonghao publicly acknowledges his relationship with Taiwanese girlfriend Agnes, stating he regards her as marriage material.

May 2021: For the first time on Mother's Day, Li Yonghao uploads a photo of Agnes and his mother together, where Agnes is seen holding her future mother-in-law’s hand, suggesting a harmonious atmosphere.

August 2022: Li Yonghao and Agnes register their marriage, with Li Jiading present at the ceremony, praising his daughter-in-law. Shiming and Li Yonghan’s whole family, however, were absent, triggering outside speculation. Rumors had it that Shiming, concerned about Agnes and Li Yonghao being the same age (over 40) and the possible effect on childbearing, had suggested her son wait and observe before marrying. This allegedly caused the mother-son relationship to hit rock bottom.

There were also rumors that after Li Yonghao moved out to live with his wife, he cut ties with the family, failing to inform his mother or brother formally of the marriage, causing Shiming to cry herself to sleep every day. But Li Jiading denied that Shiming disliked her daughter-in-law.

December 2022: Shiming suffered a severe head injury after a fall at home and needed brain surgery.
