On the 14th, a case of a body being dumped in the jungle occurred in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. The deceased was a Chinese national. Police investigation revealed that the victim was kidnapped by a business partner and allegedly killed after failing to pay the ransom.
According to Thai Chinese-language media “Thai Eye,” police received a report on Monday that the body of a Chinese national had been found in Mae Rim Town. Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered that the victim, aged about 24 to 30, had been transported to the site to be dumped. After investigation, the deceased was identified as a Chinese man surnamed Yang.
● Family Had Been Demanded a Ransom of 390,000 RMB
According to police, before his death, Yang and another Chinese friend surnamed Hu were engaged in underground business (black market) in the Golden Triangle Economic Zone, Jinmoumin, Laos. On July 8th, after arriving in Chiang Mai, they were kidnapped. Later, Yang's family received a ransom demand of 3 million Thai baht (RM 392,600), but they lacked the funds and could not pay. Police later found Hu, who claimed he was also kidnapped and extorted for 1.5 million baht (RM 196,300), paid the ransom and was released.
● Went from Laos to Thailand to Negotiate Human Trafficking Business
Hu later claimed that he and Yang had been invited to Thailand by two other Chinese men surnamed Wang and Zhang to discuss matters related to human trafficking, and later entered Thailand through unofficial channels. However, both he and Yang were kidnapped by Zhang and Wang. Hu stated that because Yang could not pay the ransom, he was killed by the captors.
On July 11th, Thai police arrested Zhang. Searches of the suspect’s rental house on the night of the crime uncovered a large amount of blood in both the garage and the bedroom! Zhang initially confessed that it was Wang who killed Yang with a hammer, after which the two disposed of the body together. He emphasized that he was only an “accomplice.” The main culprit, Wang, is still at large.
Currently, Thai police are still pursuing Wang, who is on the run. In addition, police also suspect that Hu may be an “inside man” and have currently detained him on charges of “illegal entry,” pending further investigation into his specific relationship with the two suspects.
