(Sibu, 22nd) Three students from Chung Cheng Secondary School recently represented their school in the 2026 National Inter-School Chess Competition for Secondary Schools and Pre-University Colleges organized by the Division of Co-curricular Activities, Arts & Creativity of the Ministry of Education. After six intense rounds, our school's players won a total of four matches, ultimately securing an excellent overall score of 11 points (out of a possible 18), and were awarded fifth place nationwide.
This was the first time Chung Cheng Secondary School sent students to participate in this national competition. The three debutant players remained calm under pressure and acted prudently in each game, demonstrating outstanding strategic thinking and decision-making skills. They stood out among many competing teams and achieved encouraging results. To reach the national top five on their first try is remarkable and deserves high recognition and encouragement.
The purpose of this competition is to enhance students' interest in chess, train their decision-making and strategic abilities, and cultivate students with critical and creative thinking skills. The three award-winning students from our school are: Casey from Grade 7 Jasmine class, Cheng Fu from Grade 9 Arts class, and Hong Wei Hao from Grade 10 Science class.
The school hopes that more students will actively participate in such extracurricular activities in the future, exercising their minds and broadening their horizons through healthy competition, bringing honor to the school.
