Elementary school student Er Pang's biggest idol since childhood has been his uncle, Cui Guoming (played by Guo Jingfei). His uncle was smart since he was young, always outperforming others at everything, and after graduating university, became a core technician at a factory. However, precisely because Lao Jiu is too talented, he finds everything novel and has a strong curiosity to explore, but tends to have only a "three-minute passion" for anything. Throughout his life, Lao Jiu has tried countless professions, traveled far and wide, and each entrepreneurial venture he starts is always lively at first, yet he always misses the best timing. On his journey to chase dreams, his family has always given him the greatest support. After a lifetime of twists and turns, Lao Jiu gradually comes to realize that family affection and friendship are his most precious treasures...

In the series, Guo Jingfei plays someone who goes from being a core technician at a state-owned factory to boldly diving into the business world after encountering a setback, embarking on a series of laugh-out-loud entrepreneurial journeys.
Guo Jingfei Embarks on a Passionate Life
Supervised and co-written by Han Sanping and directed and co-written by Kong Ergou, the Chinese drama "Lao Jiu" stars Guo Jingfei and Wang Jiajia, supported by Chen Minghao, Zhang Xinyi, Liu Yitie, and Liu Peiqi. It uses a light comedic and nostalgic style to extensively portray the strivers of the Northeast in changing times.
The storyline centers on Lao Jiu "Cui Guoming" (played by Guo Jingfei), whose lifelong repeated "tossing and turning" forms the main thread, depicting the ups and downs of family, kinship, and friendships against a backdrop of social change. Life constantly pokes fun at the characters in the show, but Lao Jiu always responds with a smile. This calm and resilience brings smiles and tears to the audience. With a relaxed and powerful performance, Guo Jingfei vividly conveys Lao Jiu's passion, stubbornness, and persistent restlessness, making the character's imperfections and vibrant life force all the more convincing and making him the show's strongest emotional anchor. Most importantly, Guo Jingfei has a unique hallmark in acting—"rascal energy"—with the occasional quirky tone, frequent interjections in local dialect, and mischievous facial expressions that lend domestic authenticity as well as heighten the comedic atmosphere.
Female lead Wang Jiajia's performance is also a delightful surprise. Previously, she has brought to life many distinctive characters in various works, easily switching from fierce antagonists to gentle everyday women. This time, she plays Lao Jiu's wife "Li Xiaozhen", a warm presence in the story. This character, though appearing gentle and simple, is actually insightful and wise—she might tease her husband's restlessness but always supports him quietly from behind. Wang Jiajia naturally exudes a sense of homely warmth, and her chemistry with Guo Jingfei as a couple is set to produce wonderful sparks. Their daily bickering and tender interactions will surely be one of the dramatic highlights.
Additionally, the series is rich in everyday details—brightly colored clothing, retro nostalgic streets and old objects, and the warm, bustling atmosphere of a Northeastern family—all work together to build a tangible texture of the times. It is precisely these narrative elements, period symbols, and details of daily life that ground the series in authenticity, making "Lao Jiu" convey a deeper charm of the era between laughter and tears.
