Yemen Houthis Launch Missiles at Israel Again, Escalating Middle East Tensions

(Yemen, 29th) Yemen's rebel group 'Houthi Movement' announced its second wave of attacks against Israel on the 28th. Just hours earlier, this Iranian-backed political and military organization had declared its intervention in the Middle East war to support its ally Iran.

According to AFP and CNN, Houthi spokesperson Saree issued a statement saying that the Houthi Movement launched 'a wave of missiles and drones at Israel, targeting several important military sites', and pointed out that this attack was 'synchronized with ongoing military operations by Iran and Lebanon's Hezbollah.'

Israeli security sources confirmed that, just hours after the first missile was fired and their official entry into the Iran conflict, the Houthi Movement launched a second missile at Israel.

Security officials stated that both missiles had been intercepted, and there were no casualties or property damage.

The outbreak of Middle East conflict following US and Israeli attacks on Iran has already led to the near total closure of the Strait of Hormuz; the Houthi Movement's involvement has intensified concerns about disruption to Red Sea shipping lanes and shockwaves in the energy markets.

After all, during the Gaza war between Israel and the Palestinian armed group 'Hamas', the Houthi Movement previously attacked commercial ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden under the pretext of supporting Palestine, forcing shipping companies to reroute and greatly increase transport costs.

This time, following the outbreak of the Middle East conflict, as Iran has made it clear that enemy ships will not be allowed through the Strait of Hormuz, Saudi Arabia has shifted most of its oil exports to leave instead from the Yanbu port on the Red Sea, to avoid the associated risks.
