Last January's Global Temperature Exceeded the Limit Premier: Sarawak Focuses on Hydrogen Energy to Address the Issue

(Kuching, 12th) Sarawak is making serious efforts to address the issue of rising global temperatures by taking bold measures to focus on green energy.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari stated that last January's global temperature rose by 1.75 degrees Celsius compared to pre-industrial levels, exceeding the 1.5 degrees Celsius limit stipulated by the Paris Agreement.

He pointed out that carbon emissions, particularly from the energy sector, remain the main driving force behind this increase, with fossil fuels dominating almost every aspect of human life.

"This is why Sarawak Energy focuses on hydrogen energy. Scientists claim that the cleanest energy is hydrogen. Sarawak is boldly venturing into hydrogen production, despite the high costs. However, our dams have abundant water resources, and Sarawak also has methane reserves composed of hydrogen and carbon. It's important to have the right technology and reasonable costs to achieve efficient hydrogen production."

Abang Johari made this statement during a reception banquet for a visiting delegation last night.

He stated that as digitization progresses and computing costs decrease, the cost of hydrogen production will continue to decline.

He explained that if the cost of renewable energy technology becomes cheaper, then the cost of alternative energy production will also decrease accordingly.

"If this technology becomes cheaper, then renewable energy production will become more competitive, which will help reduce carbon emissions."
