Football Match Struck by Lightning in Southern Thailand: Player Dies on Field

A fatal accident occurred during a football match in Sungai Kolok, Narathiwat Province, southern Thailand, on Tuesday, when a young footballer was struck by lightning during the game and died on the spot!

According to information circulating on social media, the deceased, Sofwan, in his 20s, was participating in the local “Golok FA Cup” football tournament at the time. During the match, the weather suddenly changed accompanied by thunder and rain. Sofwan was suspected to have been struck by lightning on the field and succumbed to his injuries.

After the incident came to light, local residents and netizens extended their condolences to the bereaved family, and questioned why the organizers did not call off the match in time when the thunderstorm approached, allowing players to continue to be exposed on the open field and putting their lives in danger from lightning strikes.

Many netizens pointed out that this tragedy once again serves as a warning: as soon as the weather starts turning dark or there are signs of lightning, all outdoor activities should be stopped immediately, and everyone should evacuate to a safe place as soon as possible, rather than gambling with a 'just a few more minutes' mentality to continue playing.
