(Bandar Seri Begawan, 20th) Brunei is currently in the monsoon transition period, which typically lasts until November 2025.
At 5am local time yesterday, tropical storm 'Fengshen' was located over the western Pacific at latitude 13.9°N, longitude 122.6°E, approximately 1500 kilometers from Brunei. It is expected that tropical storm 'Fengshen' will move northwestward, away from our country.
It is anticipated that tropical storm 'Fengshen' will indirectly affect our country’s weather conditions. Showers or thunderstorms are likely to occur occasionally, sometimes accompanied by strong winds, especially over our coastal waters and coastal areas. During or near severe thunderstorms, wind speeds may reach up to 45 km/h.
At the same time, in Bruneian waters, sea conditions are generally light with wave heights between 0.5 meters and 1.0 meters. During periods of strong winds, sea conditions may temporarily rise to moderate, with wave heights up to 2.0 meters.
The Brunei Meteorological Department advises the public, including road users and seafarers, to take appropriate precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions to ensure everyone's safety.
During heavy rain and strong winds, the risks of falling trees, roofs being blown off, and landslides are higher. During prolonged heavy rainfall and rising tides, low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as areas near riverbanks, are especially susceptible to flash floods.
During strong winds, moderate sea conditions pose hazards for the navigation of small vessels. The Brunei Meteorological Department will continue to closely monitor weather conditions and will issue weather advisories and warnings as necessary.
