Chinese MIIT Leadership Meets with Heads of Apple and Other Multinational Companies

The leadership of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) met with executives from multinational companies and business associations including Apple, Qualcomm, and SK Hynix.

According to news from the WeChat public account “MIIT Weibo” on the 23rd, Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong, Vice Ministers Xin Guobin and Xiong Jijun, separately met in Beijing with Apple CEO Tim Cook, Qualcomm President and CEO Cristiano Amon, SK Hynix President and CEO Kwak Noh-Jung, Volkswagen Group Management Board Chairman Oliver Blume, Mercedes-Benz Group Management Board Chairman Ola Källenius, Siemens AG Chairman, President and CEO Roland Busch, Fortescue Metals Group Chairman Andrew Forrest, GlobalFoundries CEO Thomas Caulfield, Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan, as well as US-China Business Council President Craig Allen, who all attended the China Development Forum 2026 Annual Meeting in China.

The MIIT officials stated that China is vigorously advancing new industrialization, accelerating the establishment of a modern industrial system with advanced manufacturing as its backbone, consolidating and strengthening the bedrock of its real economy, and ensuring a strong start to the 15th Five-Year Plan.

The officials also said that China will further carry out comprehensive deepening of reform, continuously expand high-level opening up, create a world-class business environment that is market-oriented, governed by law, and internationalized, and share the opportunities of Chinese-style modernization with all parties. They expressed hope that multinational companies will continue to deeply cultivate the Chinese market, collaborate and innovate together with upstream and downstream enterprises in China’s industrial chain, and realize mutually beneficial and win-win development.

Previously, on the morning of the 22nd, Chinese Premier Li Qiang attended the opening ceremony of the China Development Forum 2026 Annual Meeting and delivered a keynote address. He stated that China has never pursued a trade surplus, pledged to import more high-quality foreign goods, and called on all parties to jointly promote balanced and optimized trade development.

Last year, China’s trade surplus exceeded 1 trillion USD (3.94 trillion ringgit), and its strong export momentum at the start of this year has attracted international attention.
