On June 10, the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council held a regular press conference and stated that if the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities dare to provoke the mainland coast guard, they must bear all consequences triggered thereby.
A reporter asked, the DPP authorities claim that on June 5 a mainland coast guard vessel entered the "restricted waters" of the Dongsha Islands, resulting in a face-off between vessels from both sides. What is your comment on this?
Spokesperson Zhang Han responded that China has sovereignty over all islands in the South China Sea, including the Dongsha Islands and the adjacent waters. The mainland coast guard's law enforcement patrols in these waters are normal duties. If the DPP authorities dare to provoke, they must bear all consequences arising therefrom.
Taiwan’s Coast Guard Administration reported last Saturday that a mainland coast guard vessel (hull number 3501) intruded into the Dongsha restricted waters at 8:00 a.m. last Friday. Taiwan’s “Patrol Vessel No. 9” escorted and monitored it, and “Chunghwa Ship” continued the standoff afterwards.
The Coast Guard Administration stated that during the law enforcement process, the mainland coast guard vessel retorted: “We are conducting law enforcement activities, please do not interfere with the mission. Recognize the national cause, Taiwan’s future lies in national reunification, please fully recognize the trend of the times and the national cause, do not misjudge the situation.”
The Chunghwa Ship retorted: “You have entered Taiwan’s waters without permission. Your actions prove that China’s (mainland) peace is a lie and is not supported by the international community. Please do not undermine peace; you should strive for democracy, which is the right way to serve your country. Please leave Taiwan’s waters as soon as possible, or we will take necessary action in accordance with the law.”
