[India Plane Crash] Incident Occurred 5 Minutes After Takeoff, Over 200 Bodies Found

(India, 13th News) An Air India passenger plane crashed on the afternoon of the 12th near Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat, India, with all 242 people on board feared dead.
As of that evening local time, Reuters quoted police sources as saying that 204 bodies had been found at the crash site. The Indian Express also quoted police sources confirming that all 242 on board perished.

The flight was scheduled to fly from Ahmedabad to London, UK, and took off at 1:38 PM local time (4:08 PM Malaysian time), crashing within 5 minutes after takeoff in a residential area near the airport.

The report pointed out that because this was a long-haul flight, the plane was fueled with a large amount of fuel before takeoff, leading to intensified explosions and fires after the crash. Several fire trucks and ambulances have been dispatched to the scene for rescue operations.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of India issued a statement saying that the aircraft's pilots had sent a distress signal to air traffic control shortly after takeoff, but subsequently did not respond to calls from ATC.
Videos circulating on social media show a huge column of black smoke at the crash site.

The plane began to descend slowly shortly after takeoff, with the landing gear still extended, and exploded on impact with the ground, creating a large fireball.
